Bill Woods

Bill has been a USEF judge (now "R") for more than 25 years, bringing that perspective to his teaching.  His insights will be especially helpful for riders who want to compete.  He was mentored by Swedish Olympian Maj. Anders Lindgren for more than twenty years.  He has also rode extensively with Tom and Michael Poulin, Louise Nathhorst (SWE), M. Lockie Richards (NZ), Col. Aage Sommer (DEN), Col. Bengt Ljungquist (SWE), and Kathy Connelly.

Bill was the first American designated by the USDF to conduct official Regional Dressage Instructors’ Workshops, presenting over 30 of them in such diverse locales as California, New York, Arizona, Minnesota, Louisiana, and Alaska.  He chaired the USDF Council of Instructors and Trainers for seven years and was largely responsible for pushing to fruition the USDF’s program for instructor certification and the beginning of the USDF's program of annual National Symposiums.  Bill is a member of the Dressage Foundation's screening committee for Hopkins Grant applicants.  In 2003, Bill was named one of the 20 most influential members at the USDF's Thirtieth Annual Convention.

Bill has written articles on dressage for the USDF magazine Connections and Dresseage Today.  He is the author of Dressage Unscrambled, released by Half Halt Press in October of 2009 and now distributed by Horse and Rider, a division of Trafalgar Square Press.
